David Rogers reviewing the dugout ground rules. Grounds rules are usually set by the home team. However, if the teams playing do not agree, the ground rules shall be determined by the umpires. After the "walk through" of the ground rules, Mike Wallace, Don January and David Rogers (CC) take time out to have their picture taken.

LSU's ground crew preparing the field with the four teams' logo that participated in the NCAA Regional Tournament. Alex Box Stadium was in great shape and the ground crew did a tremendous job.

Bryant Woodall checks out the crew pictures of umpires that have umpired at LSU in a NCAA Regional / Super Regional. In the back ground sitting is "Bones". Bones is the acting club house attendant for the umpires. Great Job Bones!

Mike Wallace, plate umpire, taking the line-up cards. Line-up cards play an important role of the game. The plate umpire should review with each coach the designated hitter and pitcher and any possible mistakes that could be on the line-up card. An example would be a player listed twice on the line-up.

Plate umpire, Mike Wallace, prepares prior to the beginning of the game by getting a look at the pitcher's pitches. Some of the reasons for this is to see the type of pitches, focus on timing, see the release point of the pitcher (timing) and it is an opportunity to stretch.

Chris Coskey trying to stay cool in the hot weather in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This was Chris's first NCAA Regional assignment. Chris did an outstanding job! Great job Chris! PAC-10 Umpire, David Rogers, displaying a crisp and smooth strike mechanic. David worked his first NCAA World Series (2004). Great job David! This PAC-10 Umpire, Steve Mattingly, is in proper starting position, which is in foul territory behind the first baseman.

Chris Coskey making sure he drinks plenty of water before, during and after the game. Baton Rouge, Louisiana was extremely hot and humid. Bryant Woodall and David Rogers Left to Right: Steve Mattingly, Bryant Woodall, Chris Coskey and Don January

David Rogers, plate umpire, has responsibility of all plays at third base with this rotation. David Rogers' head height is perfect. David also has a solid "locked-in" stance Bryant Woodall has enough distance between him and the first baseman. Starting position for a first base umpire with no runners on should be 10 to 12 feet behind the first baseman.
